The Song of Achilles
Achilles, “the best of all Greeks,” is the son of the cruel sea goddess Thetis and the legendary king Peleus. He is strong, swift, and beautiful, and he is irresistible to all who come into contact with him. Patroclus is an awkward young prince who has been exiled from his homeland following a shocking act of violence. Despite the gods’ wrath, they form an inseparable bond after being brought together by chance.
They are trained in the arts of war and medicine by the centaur Chiron, but when word arrives that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, all the heroes of Greece are summoned to lay siege to Troy in her honor. Achilles, seduced by the promise of a glorious destiny, joins their cause, and Patroclus, torn between love and fear for his friend, follows. They have no idea that the cruel Fates will put them to the ultimate test and demand a terrible sacrifice.
